COVID-19 Update

Dear Paperhouse friends,

As of January 25th, we have decided to adjust our vaccine policy to the following:

We require proof of a minimum of 2 vaccines for all visitors, class participants, artists, members, and/or any member of the community who is entering our studio.

Other COVID-19 policies are still in effect, please review Member’s Guidelines and/or In-Studio — Class Guidelines.

We are currently on Phase 4.

General Public Guidelines and Protocol 

This guidelines is for the general public interested in visiting Paperhouse or participating in any events or programming including workshops, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and in consultation with the City of Toronto’s COVID-19 response framework. For members please view our expanded membership guidelines here.

Reopening Phases

Please note: our “phases” do not align with the province’s “steps”.

Lockdown, before phase 1

  • 1 person / 1 household in-studio maximum

  • Key-holding members only

  • No in-person appointments / meetings.

  • Group/private classes, events, and programming prohibited.

  • Health screening required.

Phase 1, 

  • 1 person / 1 household in-studio maximum

  • Key-holding members only

  • No in-person appointments / meetings.

  • Group/private classes, events, and programming prohibited.

  • Health screening required.

Phase 2, 

  • 3 people in-studio maximum, limited bookings available

  • Key-holding members only

  • In-person appointments / meetings permitted.

  • Private classes permitted, max. 2 participants.

  • Masks required when more than one person of different households are in the space

  • Maintain safe social distance

  • Other events and programming are prohibited

  • Health screening required

Phase 3, 

  • 4 people in-studio maximum, limited bookings available

  • New members permitted

  • In-person appointments / meetings permitted

  • In-studio classes permitted, max. 4 participants

  • Masks required when more than one person of different households are in the space

Phase 4, 

  • 5 people in-studio maximum

  • Maintain safe social distance when eating and/or drinking

  • Other events and programming permitted

  • Health screening required

* Projected timelines of moving into Phase 1, Phase 2, Phase 3, and Phase 4 are first determined by a number of factors as outlined by the province, please review them here “Reopening Ontario”, Paperhouse sub-tenants and staff assess further to determine the final re-opening strategy. We also reserve the right to adjust the timeline or restrictions according to our collective’s comfort as we move through each phase. 


No Public Hours

Paperhouse does not have public hours, we are by appointment only. Please review each area of interest below prior to getting in touch with us: 

Education 

including school groups, one-on-one instruction, and private team building sessions

All available, upcoming workshops are listed on our website here. Additional information on one-on-one instruction is available on our website and we request that you complete the form so we can better address your needs. We are able to flex studio capacity, depending on the request.

Membership

including rentals, work-exchange members, and available materials for purchase

Information about our membership is available here. For all members interested in renting studio space, we request you additionally review our prerequisites and requirements for renting here prior to getting in touch with us. 

Custom Projects

including commissions and artist projects

Please view our portfolio to get an idea of what is possible within paper as a medium, and our Instagram also provides additional documentation. We are an experimental studio and we would love to work with you directly to make your paper dreams come true.     

Community Programming

including youth programmes

We have resumed some in-person community programming, including Open Studio Thursdays, and will be taking our time to carefully build out more comprehensive programmes. We may host some online sessions, we encourage you to get in touch with us directly to ask for more information. 

General 

Paperhouse staff will continue to work from home for the foreseeable future, we will only be in-studio for studio specific tasks, activities, and/or projects.

  1. Your question / concern.

  2. Your name and best method of reaching you (e.g. phone or email).

  3. If you request a phone call, please provide the best days and times to call back.

Please allow up to a week for a response either via email or voicemail.


Booking an in-person appointment

In-person meetings are only booked after an initial phone call and/or email and must be kept under 2 hours. We will continue to prioritize all communications to be virtual when possible to keep everyone safe and to maximize access to the studio for our members and sub-tenants.  

All visitors will need to provide proof of a minimum of 2 vaccinations, as per our vaccine policy.

We will only book in-person meetings for the following: 

  • Studio tours for potential members that wish to rent studio space if a virtual tour is insufficient.

  • Specific rental requests from members

  • Orientation or training for members

  • To present examples of artwork, handmade papers, and/or other projects that are best experienced in-person

  • One-on-one instruction

All other requests will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis and Paperhouse retains the right to determine if an in-person visit will be necessary. 


In-studio meeting guidelines

**Please stay home if you have been in close contact with an individual who has tested positive for COVID-19, reside with someone with COVID-19, and/or are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19, as detailed below.

As provided by the Provincial Government:

​​Symptoms of COVID-19 and variants range from mild — like the flu and other common respiratory infections — to severe. If you feel sick or not well, please stay home. Talk with a doctor if necessary.

Call 911 if you are experiencing any of the following symptoms:

  • Severe difficulty breathing (struggling for each breath, can only speak in single words)

  • Severe chest pain (constant tightness or crushing sensation)

  • Feeling confused or unsure of where you are

  • Losing consciousness

The most common symptoms of COVID-19 include:

  • Fever (a temperature of 37.8 degrees Celsius or higher) and/or chills

  • Cough, including a barking cough or croup (continuous, more than usual, making a whistling noise when breathing)

  • Shortness of breath (out of breath, unable to breathe deeply)

  • Decrease or loss of taste or smell

  • For children under 18 years of age: nausea, vomiting and/or diarrhea

  • For adults over 18 years of age: muscle aches, joint pain and/or extreme tiredness

If you feel sick or not well (not related to getting a COVID-19 vaccine in the last 48 hours), please stay home. Talk with a doctor if necessary.

Entering the Building and the Studio

  1. Please await confirmation from our staff of your meeting.

  2. Please ensure you have a comfortable face mask available to wear while you are in our studio. If you are unable to wear a mask due to pre-existing health conditions, please inform us prior to the meeting to discuss further.

  3. With exceptions to access needs, we will not permit our staff, members, and the public to enter the building and/or the studio without a face mask. The studio will not have a box of disposable masks available, however there is a Shoppers Drug Mart nearby (Queen and Ossington) that will have an available supply for you to purchase.

  4. You will need to fill in our contract tracking form upon entry to our studio.

  5. Upon entry to Paperhouse Studio, we encourage you to disinfect and/or wash your hands with soap.

  6. For short meetings—eating is not permitted in the studio, drinking water or other beverages to stay hydrated is allowed provided that you create a safe distance (at least 6ft apart) before removing your mask and drinking.

  7. Lounging or eating / drinking is permitted in the common Youngplace areas (e.g. hallway and mezzanine). You can also use the outdoor seating spaces.   

  8. Bathrooms will be accessible in the Youngplace building, staff will provide wayfinding for you.
